December 2008

On 17th Dec 08, Roko Cancer campaign organized a cancer awareness & detection camp at India Habitat Centre in partnership with Habitat Learning Centre. Various NGO’s from all over Delhi participated. For the very first time, various hospitals and doctors partnered the campaign.A team of Doctors from Delhi State Cancer Institute, Dilshad Garden, Rajeev Gandhi Cancer Institute,SMH Curie Cancer Hospital and Pushpanjali Cancer Hospital were present. Free Mammograms were conducted and awareness on cervix and oral cancer was imparted. Screening of various films and a street play was performed.

From 20th Dec to 27th Dec 08 various camps were conducted at New Friends Colony ,Chattarpur, Rajinder Nagar Gurudwara for Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee.

GOA

We have had astounding success in Goa where the campaign was supported by the Rotary International District 3170. MKC ROKO Cancer Trust joined hands with the Rotary International District 3170 as an equally committed partner in their resolve to make both prevention and early detection of Cancer reach women both in the urban areas and deep in the villages. It supported the Rotarian’s resolve by providing the services of a Mobile Medical Unit, personnel required for creating awareness, screening, patient’s education on self-examination methods and Mammography of suspected cases.

On 8th Jan 09, Roko Cancer Trust participated in the Golden Jubilee District Conference SUVARNA UTSAV 2009 at Goa. Our Chairman Rtn. A.P.S. Chawla gave the key note address which was thought provoking and at the same time was a great learning experience for the Rotarians present at the conference. The event was presided over by TRF Trustee Carolyn Jones as RI President's Representative. The campaign of Roko Cancer was applauded.Ms Isha Bhandari, Director Operations apprised the Rotarians of the details of the Roko Cancer campaign which was supported by the Rotary International District 3170. ROKO Cancer Trust joined hands with the Rotary International District 3170 to conduct a three - months awareness and detection drive in Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra which made both prevention and early detection of Cancer reach women both in the urban areas and deep in the villages. There was Film on the campaign was screened along with the Public Interest Message.

Madhya Pradesh

Early Detection leads to cure.....

Our third Mobile Breast Cancer Detection unit is being launched in 2007 for Madhya Pradesh. The campaign is being supported by the Madhya Pradesh Government with the initiative of Hon'ble Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister MP.

A Breast Cancer Detection Camp was held at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal on 18th Dec 06.The Camp was visited by Shri Ajay Vishnoi,Health Minister, MP and other officials. The Health Minister has committed to support the campaign. A mobile breast cancer detection unit will be launched in Madhya Pradesh shortly.  

West Bengal  

Early Detection leads to cure.....

The trust launched it's awareness drive in Kolkota with the inauguration of the WEST BENGAL BRANCH OF ROKO CANCER TRUST(UK) with the support of Kinkar Vitthal Ramanuja, President Omkarnath Movement amidst gathering of 5000 people. A supporting function was held where Mr. A.P.S. Chawla, Chairman MKC TRUST, UK laid the foundation stone for the new complex of Mahamilan Vidyapith at Mahamilan Math in Kolkota on 15th Oct 06. The function was attended by Baroness... Sandeep Verma, MP UK, Mr Simon Wilson, British High Commissioner Kolkota, Mr Mark Runacres, Deputy British High Commissioner, New Delhi, Mr Harcharan Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, HPL Group, Mr Ashok Verma, Industrialist from UK and Isha Bhandari, Director Operations, India, MKC Trust.

A seminar on Breast Cancer Awareness was organised by Roko Cancer in association with Rotary Club
Kolkata on 12th Jan 07.

A lecture was conducted on the working of Roko Cancer Campaign and Awareness on Breast Cancer at New Life Nursing Home, Kolkata on 12 th Jan. The event was attended by Mr APS Chawla, Chairman, MKC Trust (UK), Mr Pratim Chatterjee Minister, in charge, West Bengal Government and other dignitaries from Kolkota.

On 12th Feb 07 an awareness camps was held in Kolkata in association with Omkarnath Movement.

Breast Self Examination pamphlets were distributed in the camp. The importance of early detection was impacted to the women.

On 4th March 07 an awareness programme was held in Kolkata as part of the Roko Cancer Awareness
Campaign in association with Omkarnath Movement. 

Maharastra

Early Detection leads to cure.....

On 1st Dec 05, Roko Cancer Campaign was launched in Maharashtra by Mr SM Krishnan, Governor of Maharashtra, at Raj Bhawan in Mumbai.

On 15th Jan 06, the Trust participated in the 3rd Standard Chartered Bank Mumbai Marathon. 250 runners participated including celebrities from Bollywood.

The Trust participated in the 3rd Asia Pacific Reach to Recovery International Breast Cancer Support
Conference 2006 at Mumbai.

Utter Pradesh

Roko Cancer Campaign was launched at Babrala,UP with the support Tata Chemicals Society for Rural
Development (TCSRD). In the month of Feb 07 number of camps were held to spread the awareness and detection through free Mammography. Regular counselling sessions were conducted in the rural areas and films on Cancer Awareness were screened. A total of 353 Villages were covered. The camps are being held in association with BATRA HOSPITAL, New Delhi under the advise of Dr. G.P. Vashist MD, Director Radiology and Imaging, Batra Hospital. The first camp at Babrala was inaugurated by Mr Amir Alvi, Senior Manager Production TCSRD, TATA CHEMICALS, UP and attended by Mr P.C. Jain, Head of Location, Mr. Bhatia, Mr Rishi Pathania, Deputy Manager Community Development.

Andhra Pradesh 

Early Detection leads to cure.....

On 1st October 07, MKC Roko Cancer Charitable Trust in partnership with Dr. Reddy's Foundation for Health Education (DRFHE) and Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation introduced the Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening Programme in Hyderabad. For the first time in India, this venture is being undertaken in collaboration with Jarvis Breast Screening Centre in London, one of the largest Breast Screening centres in UK. A programme of this nature with International collaboration will be extended to other cities in Andhra Pradesh in due course.

PUNJAB

January 2009

On 30th Jan 09, Roko Cancer Organized an Awareness Walk from Guru Nanak Dev College to BBK DAV College in Amritsar where approx. 800 people participated in the walk. The walk was covered by the Media.

From 15th Jan – 28th Jan 09, Roko cancer collaborated with Dr.Reddy’s Laboratory and conducted 15 days Breast Cancer Awareness and Detection camps at various districts of Punjab ( Ambala, Yamunanagar, Ropar, Anandpur Sahib, Basipathana, Nangal, Una, Hoshiyarpur, Patiala, Dera Bassi, Chandigarh High Courts, Chandigarh SBI ) and Himachal Pradesh ( Shimla ). Lectures were delivered and counseling was given by the doctors to the patients attending the camps and free mammograms were conducted. Breast self examination pamphlets, brochures and information leaflets were distributed.
862 women were examined, 283 mammograms were conducted and 6 women were found positive on mammograms.

Roko Cancer Campaign is a name to reckon with in Punjab where the first fully equipped Mobile Breast Cancer Detection Unit was launched by the Trust in Dec 05. The unit was flagged off from Golden Temple Amritsar by S. AS Makkar, President SGPC for it’s journey in the semi urban and rural areas of Punjab. Since it’s launch number of camps have been conducted and thousands of women benefited. Wide media publicity has been given to the detection camps. Regular presentations and seminars are also being held all over Punjab to spread the awareness on Breast Cancer. We have covered seven Districts – Amritsar, Kapurthala, Ferozepur, Moga, Faridkot Muktsar and Bathinda.

The first camp, organized at Amritsar by local branch of MKC Trust with the help of Freemasons, Rotarians and Indian Medical Association was held at Herwana Govt School on 18th Dec 05, where detection of Breast Cancer and Mammography was done. The camp was inaugurated by Shri Giridhar Gamang, MP and former Chief Minister of Orissa. The camp was well attended and received a lot of media coverage.                                                                

The Second Camp was held at Verka Primary Health Centre, Verka Block on 22nd Jan 06. The Third Camp was held at Taran Taaran Primary Health Centre on 25th Feb 06.             Other Camps have been held at Mananwala, Patti, Chabal Kalan, Sultanpur Lodhi Khem Karan and Kapurthala where Maharaja Kapurthala, Brig Sukhjit Singh was the Chief Guest.

Roko Cancer camps have been covered by NDTV Channel in the form of a short film which was telecast on the NDTV Channel.

ROKO CANCER TRUST also participated in the Annual Inner Wheel Conference held at Kapurthala on 23rd April 06. Information on Breast Cancer Awareness was imparted.

The Trust also participated in the Annual IMA (Indian Medical Association) conference which was held on 5th May 06 at Jalandhar. The President IMA Punjab, Dr. Gurmez Singh Gill apprised the IMA members about the ROKO CANCER CAMPAIGN in Punjab. The activities of the trust were well appreciated.

On 20th July 07 a detection camp was organised at Majitha in Amritsar. The camp was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Health Minister Punjab,Smt Laxmi Kanta Chawla. She appreciated the campaign of the MKC Trust and spoke about the importance of Awareness of Breast Cancer. She also announced the collaboration of Mkc Roko Cancer Charitable Trust and Punjab Health and Family Welfare Department.
