ROKO CANCER CAMPAIGN was launched by Mr APS Chawla, Chairman, MKC Trust UK at New Delhi in Jan 06 after the launch of the FIRST FULLY EQUIPPED MOBILE BREAST CANCER DETECTION UNIT for the women, on 16 Dec 05, which was flagged off by Hon’ble Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Vice President of India, and launched by Hon’ble Smt Sheila Dikshit, CM Delhi, for its journey in semi urban and rural areas in Punjab.

A supporting function was held at India International Centre, New Delhi where Smt Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi, as the Chief Guest inaugurated the Mobile Unit. A delegation from Britain which included Mr Keith Vaz, M.P and Former Minister UK, Mr Jeremy Hughes, CEO Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity, UK, Lord King, Member House of Lords, UK, Ms Penny Spears(Patron ROKO Cancer), UK along with Mr Mark Runacres, British Deputy High Commissioner in India, Sh Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, MP and Former Union Minister, Sh Tarlochan Singh, Chairman, National Commission Minorities, Sh Giridhar Gamang, MP and Former Chief Minister, Orissa, Ms Kirron Kher, Actor, Sh MS Gill, MP and Former Chief Election Commissioner also supported the cause.

Roko Cancer in District Faridkot (Punjab)


Roko Cancer Trust & the Government of Punjab will start our campaign in faridkot district on 3rd May 2010 at civil hospital Faridkot, the Deputy Commissioner Faridkot inaugurate the Roko Cancer First camp, and address to local public, MLA S. Dhillon & S. Mantar Singh Brar also will be there as special guest. Roko Cancer Trust will be running our program under the gueid line of Dr. Harjit Bharti Civil Surgeon Faridkot, Roko Cancer work in this district for three month and conducting the 45 camps in all over faridkot.

 

Punjab Camps 16thSep -19th November 2009

Roko Cancer Trust conducted a three months breast cancer awareness and detection camps from 16th September 2009 to 19th November 2009 in collaboration with Nanhi Chaan Foundation, Punjab. The camps were conducted in Talwandi Sabo, Singo, Badiala, Jodhpur Pakhar, Raman Mandi, Maur, Sangat, Baliawali, Ghudda, Kotshamir, Nathana, Bucho, Buha, Joga, Khiala Kalan, Sardulgarh, Dhaipa, Bhaihniwal, Rangrial, Kulria, Bhikhi, Phaphre bhainike, Bareta, Budhlada, Nagal Kalan & other rural areas of Bathinda, Mansa and Mukhtsar. The beneficiaries were also explained and taught the Breast Self Examination techniques through a demonstration by well-qualified doctors. The campaign was a huge success with a total of 3600 examinations , 950 mammograms and 132 were suspected cases. The camps were held with the support of District Commissioners and Civil Surgeons. Smt.Harsimrat Kaur Badal, MP inaugurated the camps in Punjab.

19th – 30th November 2009

Roko Cancer Charitable Trust in collaboration  with AWWA (Army Wives Welfare Association) organized a East India Breast Cancer Awareness and detection drive The camps were held at Sikkim & West Bengal. Breast Self Examination pamphlets, brochures were distributed and a film on cancer awareness was screened. The campaign witnessed a huge turnout with 280 examinations and 222 mammograms.

September 2009

A Breast cancer awareness and detection camp was organized in Noida at WAVE Center Stage Mall. A stall was put up by the trust for cancer awareness and breast self examination pamphlets and brochures were distributed. A three day Breast cancer Detection Camp was held at the mall. Roko Cancer Campaign’ Public Interest Message voiced by Ms. Sushmita Sen former Miss Universe and Bollywood actor was screened at all the WAVE Multiplexes in India. The PIM will be screened permanently by WAVE as part of the sponsorship by WAVE .We are extremely grateful to them for their support in this noble cause.

July 2009

Roko Cancer Charitable Trust in alliance with AWWA (Army Wife’s Welfare Association) organized an India - wide Breast Cancer awareness and detection drive for the families of the Armed forces stationed in the length and breadth of country in the month of July.Army Camp Free mammograms were conducted through ROKO CANCER MOBILE DETECTION UNIT and patients were educated on breast, cervix and oral cancer by imparting lectures and awareness talk. Breast Self examination pamphlets, brochures and information material were circulated and a documentary film on cancer awareness was screened. Army CampTill date 2372 women have been examined and 378 mammograms have been done. 20 camps have been organized till date and many more will be held in the upcoming months.

 

On 28th July, 2009 a presentation on Breast Cancer awareness was conducted by the charity at American Embassy. The presentation commenced with the screening of an audio-visual film [ Love for Life ] on the need to alert women about the seriousness of getting a Breast examination done. Dr. Puneet Gupta, a well- known oncologist from APOLLO Hospital, shared briefly with the addressees the origin, symptoms, treatment and prevention from breast cancer. The presentation concluded with the public interest message.

Breast Cancer awareness and detection campaign was organized by Roko Cancer Trust on 8th July, 2009 in association with International Oncology at the American Embassy. Physical examination and mammograms were performed on patients and they were interviewed on their knowledge of breast cancer.
The event proved to be a success with 85 patients examined and 35 mammograms done.

June 2009

A Breast Cancer Awareness and detection campaign was structured at Delhi by the charity in the month of June and July in partnership with FORTIS HOSPITAL (international oncology).International Oncology The campaign was prearranged on an enormous scale. Patients were made aware about the benefits of self breast examination and early detection. Free mammograms were conducted to provide the needful help.
The campaign witnessed a huge turnout with 892 examinations and 412 mammograms.

Roko Cancer Trust conducted 5 day campaign on Breast Cancer Awareness and detection from21 June, 09 to 26 June, 09 in collaboration  Sahayta Organization working in urban and rural areas of Chandigarh. The patients were educated on breast self examination techniques through a demonstration by well-qualified doctors. The campaign marked a huge success with a total of 548 examinations and 137 mammograms. The two NGO’s took a further responsibility of providing help to the terminally ill patients.

March 2009

On 04th March 09, Roko Organized an Awareness Camp at Khalsa College, Karol Bagh.

On 15th March 09,The Trust participated in the  Health Mela at IIT Gate,New Delhi.A stall was put up by the Trust, Awareness leaflets were distributed and films on cancer awareness were screened. Free Mammograms were conducted through the Roko Cancer’s Mobile Unit.

From 4th March to 30th March 09, Various camps were conducted at Dev Nagar, Subhash Nagar, IIT  SDA, Vikaspuri, Tilak Nagar, Maharani Bagh, Shalimar Bagh for Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee.

February 2009

From 2nd Feb – 13th  Feb 09, Roko Cancer collaborated with HCL Technologies & organized Breast Cancer Awareness & Detection camps at Noida and  Gurgaon.

January 2009

On 30th Jan 09, Roko Cancer Organized an Awareness Walk from Guru Nanak Dev University to BBK DAV College in Amritsar where approx. 800 people participated in the walk. The walk was covered by the Media.

From 15th Jan – 28th Jan 09, Roko cancer collaborated with Dr.Reddy’s Laboratory and conducted 15 days Breast Cancer Awareness and Detection camps at various districts of Punjab ( Ambala, Yamunanagar, Ropar, Anandpur Sahib, Basipathana, Nangal, Una, Hoshiyarpur, Patiala, Dera Bassi, Chandigarh High Courts, Chandigarh SBI ) and Himachal Pradesh ( Shimla ). Lectures were delivered and counseling was given by the doctors to the patients attending the camps and free mammograms were conducted. Breast self examination pamphlets, brochures and information leaflets were distributed.
862 women were examined, 283 mammograms were conducted and 6 women were found positive on mammograms.
