Roko Cancer was invited by the Bucks Punjabi Society to their annual dinner event on the 24th September 2011. Paul Riat, chairman of Bucks Punjabi Society praised Roko Cancer in his opening speech and encouraged people to give generously to the charity. A number of distinguished business people and local community figures from Buckingshire attended. The chief guest of the evening was Virenda Sharma MP.We distribute information about Roko Cancer and the dangers of Breast Cancer to all the guests and a presentation was given also which helped to raise further awareness.
On 14th August 2011 the Indian Medical Association (IMA) held its dinner and dance event at Kanchans Restaurant in Ilford. Roko Cancer were the main charity on the night. An auction was held along with a fashion show and a presentation by Roko Cancer was given. All proceedes raised on the night were then handed to Roko Cancer. The event was a great success. Roko Cancer was able to deliver a clear presentation to a number of doctors and medical staff and the president of the IMA was very pleased at the amount of information given to its members by Roko Cancer.
Breast Cancer Awareness Camp - Park Inn Hotel, London, Saturday 5th June
The British Pakistani Doctors Forum invited Roko Cancer to their annual Gala and dinner where Imran Khan was the guest speaker. There were 400 hundred guests present. Mr Chawla met the legendary cricketer Imran Khan and presented him with a Roko Cancer Profile and pen. He invited Mr khan to also join him in the crusade to fight breast cancer and raise awareness of the disease. It was a successful night for Roko Cancer who raised the profile of the charity amongst the Pakistani Community and gained their support.
Dinner at the House of Lords - Monday 11th April 2011
Mr APS Chawla, Chairman of Roko Cancer was guest at a special reception and dinner that was held at the House of Lords by Macmillan Sheikh PLC. Mr Chawla gave a speech about the aims and objectives of the charity and was presented with a cheque for the Roko Cancer cause.
Lesley J Saunders’exhibition on Womens Day
Lesley J Saunders, who is Asian Photography’s regular columnist, is exhibiting her photographs of 'The Real Women of India' at The Nehru Centre, 8 South Audley Street, London, W1K 1HF on 8th March 2011 to celebrate the 100th International Women’s Week. Her exhibition is in support of ROKO Cancer that she has avidly supported for nearly two years. All proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to ROKO Cancer. Lord Sheikh of Cornill will formally inaugurate the exhibition.
Annual Fundrasing Event
MKC Trust – Roko cancer campaign held its annual fund raising dinner and dance at the Radisson Blu Portman hotel in London W1 on Friday 1st October 2010.
The chief guest for the evening was Dr. Vince Cable Minister for business and Innovation skills who began the nights main proceedings by lighting the lamp for awareness and early detection of cancer inspiring hope and peace for all from around the world.
The event was also attended by a host of dignitaries including Lord and Lady Sheikh, Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms M.P. Rt.Hon Keith Vaz M.P and specialists from the field of medicine. Including, Dr Ray and Trevor Powells cancer specialists and other dignitaries form the local community.
The evening was supported by Quest Diagnostics, a host of local businesses and Barclays Bank where funds were raised through holding a heads or tails game, a surprise gift tree and a raffle. An auction was also conducted.
In spite of the current economic climate the event was a great success and raised over 30,000 pounds.
Rt. Hon Vince Cable said” I am pleased with what the Roko cancer is doing for ethnic communities in Britain and India by launching the mobile units.”
Street Collection at London Marathon
At the London Marathon on 25th May 2010, volunteers from MKC Trust conducted a street collection on the route handing out balloons and our new wallet sized calendars with the signs and symptoms of Breast Cancer to watch out for on the reverse.
Fundraising at Hilton Plaza Hotel
MKC Trust representatives were invited by the Punjabi Society of the British Isles to take part in a fundraiser at the Hilton Plaza Hotel in Wembley on 16th April. Over £2,000 was raised for the cause and all those attending were very appreciative of the work our trust has been conducting. The president and executive committee have graciously agreed to hold another fundraiser for us in the near future for which we would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks.
ROKO (Stop) Cancer Campaign by MKC Trust, a UK registered charity working in the UK and India had its Annual Fundraiser at the Rembrandt Hotel, Knightsbridge, London SW7 on the 25th September 2009.
Roko Cancer Campaign’s works include raising awareness of Breast Cancer and the importance of early detection, especially within the Asian community.
The chief guest for the evening was Dominic Grieve QC MP, Shadow Minister for Justice.
The event was also attended by Tony Baldry MP; Lord and Lady Sheikh; Baroness Verma; Verender Sharma MP; and Patron of Roko Cancer, Sarah Kennedy, wife of ex Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy MP.
Donations and messages of support were received from Cherie Blair QC, Sandra Howard (wife of Michael Howard QC) and John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons.
Substantial funds were raised and people attending the function were appraised of the activities of our campaign in the UK and India.
Roko Cancer had sponsored a stutent for graduating in radiology from University of Hertfordshire.
After having successfully launched the first ever fully equipped Mobile Breast Cancer Detection Units in India, which tours the outlying villages and suburban areas, the aim of the ROKO Cancer Campaign is to provide mobile screening units in India to reach to the masses in every state of India providing free early detection by mammography to suspected cases. The Trust has also donated towards a treatment room in St Joseph’s Hospice, Hackney and regularly organises campaigns in the UK to raise Breast Cancer awareness in South Asian communities.
Deep Dhir, Hon. Director of Marketing and PR, said “the event has been a great success, not only from the point of view of fundraising, but highlighting the importance of Breast Cancer awareness and early detection.”
TIFFIN Club of Parliamentarians(UK) supports ROKO cancer campaign
The Friends circle international on at a ceremony in Laguna Restuarant in London Made a donation of one thousand pounds to the charity ROKO Cancer. The President Dr Nayyar praised the work being done by the charity in India and as a supporter in the previous years promised to support this campaign in future also.
Our champion Indi Aujla, has raised around £ 10,000 for Roko cancer campaign with the support of her husband Mr.S.Aujla, his worshipful master of freemason lounge by participating, in a bike race from London to Briton on 23rd June to support Roko cancer campaign. At the ceremony of handling over the cheque at mason lodge the documentaries were shown for importance of early detection leading to cure and ROKO cancer campaigns work for it.
On 14 November 2008 a function was held in House Of Lourds , hosted by baranars Sandeep Verma shadow minister for universities, educational skills to honour the supporters of Roko Cancer and the cause of Roko Cancer Campaign. Mr. S.S Bakshi of Kanchan resturant. Mr. Oojla of Roatary Club of london were presennted with momentos for their contributation to Roko Cancer, many dignitries from political, corporate, and academic attended this function. Other NGO's were also shows there presense in this function. Priemier of Public Interest Message of Roko Cancer for awareness and early detection of cancer were launched by C.E.O of Cancer Research and breakthroughbreast cancer.
