29th October 2007, MKC Trust Roko Cancer Campaign was awarded the Asian Leadership in Charity Award by Asians Who’s Who Magazine at a Gala Function amidst gathering of over Five Hundred Eminent Guests.
The function was held at Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London. The Award was presented by Cherie Blair and accepted on behalf of the Charity by Sandra Howard, Patron of the charity. Cherie Blair while presenting the award appreciated the Mass campaign undertaken by the charity towards the fight against Breast Cancer globally and applauded Mr. A.P.S. Chawla for his initiative to save lives of women across the globe.
On 17th May 2007 at house of Commons, Mr. APS Chawla chairman MKC Trust along with Rt. Honourable Keith Vaz MP, Tony Baldry MP and John Barratt MP held an event to honour Mr. Yash Chopra, Producer-Director, Indian Cinema as Patron Roko Cancer Campaign and as legend of Indian Cinema and Pamela Chopra as Champion extraordinary.
The event on17th was attended by eminent figures from the world of political, administrative, educational medical and business communities. The guest included Mr. Steven Timms Minister of Treasury, Lord Dholakia, Baroness Verma, Mrs. Sandra Howard Patron Roko Cancer, David Burrows MP, Mr. Dwarka Nath Rao, Head of Operations, Air India, Jeremy Hughes, ECO Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research, Mr. Naresh Goyal, Chairman Jet Airways, Isha Bandari, Director Operations, India MKC Trust and other MPs from different Political spectrum were present. Mr. Yash Chopra emphasised the need of early detection in women and appreciated the awareness and detection drive undertaken by Roko Cancer Campaign. Representative of all Political Parties in Parliament honoured Mr APS Chawla, Chairman MKC Trust for his commendable work in the Roko Cancer Campaign.
An awareness campaign on breast cancer was conducted at the British Asian women’s conference on 2nd of July 2008 at East London University by showing the documentaries and distributing self-examining leaflets.
On 16th August 2009, LONDON MELA was conducted. The Mela was attended by 40,000 people and we were able to talk to many of the people who were interested and attracted by the posters that were displayed. The posters which were of Bollywood stars and other celebrities were an attraction for Asians (of the older generation especially), but also younger Asians.
Lotus Worldwide in Aid of Roko Cancer Campaign
Lotus Worldwide, an International Organisation supporting the underprivileged worldwide organised an event in aid of Roko Cancer Campaign at The Thistle London Heathrow Hotel on 26th June 2010. Roko Cancer has emerged as a leading charity in India and UK conducting campaigns and programmes in various states of India. This is the only Charity in India conducting mass awareness on cancer and early detection through its Mobile Cancer Detection Unit. It is planning its operations in south Asian countries in the future. Hon’ble Dr. Mukul Sangma, then CM of Meghalaya State also participated in the event. Dr. Sangma said “In co-operation with the ‘Roko Cancer’ campaign, the State government has initiated several programmes for early detection and screening of cancer among women”. He met Mr. A.P.S Chawla, Chairman MKC Trust, London who assured full cooperation of Roko Cancer Campaign for setting up hospitals and training institutes in Meghalaya for early detection of cancer and also training local nurses and doctors with the support of Hospitals and Institutes from London.
It is formed by Parliamentarians to promote Indian Cuisine chose Roko Cancer as a charity to support with functions held in Gaylord Restaurant in London in Nov 2005 and function held at Palace of West Minister in May 2006 where many Parliamentarian and Minister attended. As part of the Awareness Campaign, various Presentations, Seminars, Events etc are also being held at various places in UK.
